Officer Entry & Sailor Entry


The Indian Navy enrolls people in two cadres that is the officer entry

and the sailor entry. The Indian navy is the most prestigious arm of

the armed forces. It has the best of technological advancements and

state of art technology too. The best of machines and the right kind of

training will leverage you into a different league altogether. The

training that you will get will be on Indian ships and also selected

sailors are sent abroad for training in specific disciplines.

Salary & Benefits:



The initial pay band for all sailors is between 5200 and 20200. They

also get paid perks which might amount to as much as 5000 per month if

you were to add up the different categories. Besides these you will get

books, uniforms, food and accommodation. And all this will be free of

cost. There are Group housing benefits, insurance, railway tickets,

medical and retirement plans. You think of an employee friendly benefit

and it is there.

The sailors can get promoted to the ranks of a Commissioned Officer.

This is absolutely based on merit which can serve as a great motivation

tool. The initial and induction training is grueling so as to bring out

the very best in you.

The vacancies are advertised in all the major newspapers twice a year

in December/ January or in June/July. There are some documents that

need to be attached with your application such as two passport size

photographs with your signature on it, an attested copy of your

educational qualifications and a domicile certficate. The exams are

held all over India in 34 centers.


Indian Navy Selection Process:


The selection procedure is:



* Receiving of applications only through ordinary post.
* Short-listing based on qualifications and the marks secured.
* Sending of call letters for the test
* The Written tests results are declared on the same day.
* Next is the PFT
* The Medical exam
* Creation of an all India Merit List
* A final round of interview
* If you pass the interview then you will be on the final selected

list.

The Navy does give preference to some quotas like the Sports Quota.

There are really stringent and strict standards to be met in the

Medical tests.

The written test comprises of question papers in Hindi and English. The

paper is of objective type.


Indian Navy Examination Pattern:

The paper consists of questions from:

* English
* General Knowledge
* Science
* Mathematics

Certain special branches will have papers on specialized subjects. The

basic level of the tests is at the plus two level.

For an entry as an Officer into the Navy you need to apply for the

Selection for Permanent Commission Entries except for 0 + 2 (Tech)

Cadet entry and NCC Special entry (Graduate) is through a written

examination conducted by the UPSC, followed by an interview by the

Service Selection Board (SSB). There is no written examination for the

Short Service Commission entries. These applications are short listed

as per the criteria laid down by the Naval Headquarters, Directorate of

Manpower Planning & Recruitment. Selection is through merit alone. SSC

officers may opt for Permanent Commission depending on merit, and

vacancy.

As an officer you have an option of opting for several branches. Women

are more than welcome.
